MISA was founded in the early 1960s and incorporated in 1983. In 2016, it changed its name to the Intra-Quebec Sealers Association (IQSA) and took on a larger mandate to represent sealers from the whole province of Quebec.
The role of IQSA is to promote the rights and interests of the province' sealers; to encourage sound management practices, based upon sound scientific research to ensure the sustainability of the seal populations; to promote development and marketing of seal products.
IQSA works with all relevant groups, both governmental and private sector, to achieve the above mentioned goals. IQSA is a member of the Atlantic Seal Management Office (ASMO) who regroups stakeholders from all of Eastern Canada.
